Platform Technologies
When determining the right partner to help you develop the drug delivery device for your new molecule, you have the choice of a platform product, which will likely require customization, or creating a bespoke device. At Phillips Medisize, we offer both platform products, such as the Envoi Pen Injector, and bespoke device development services that can also leverage our broad portfolio of platform technologies.
Phillips Medisize has developed a suite of platform technologies we can utilize to develop drug delivery devices. These modular assets take the form of functional subsystems, drivetrains and assemblies. Some of these enabling technologies can already be found in a range of products, including our proprietary platform products and bespoke devices developed for our customers, helping to provide confidence in feasibility.
Examples of marketed devices incorporating our platform technologies include:

A handheld reconstitution and injection device

An ambulatory, large-volume infusion system

When designing a new bespoke device, platform technologies may present several unique advantages, including:
- Faster development time through leveraging an existing portfolio of technologies (instead of developing from scratch)
- Lower cost device development, via accelerated timescales, reuse of documentation and faster verification of requirements
- Reduced risk and increased confidence compared to a traditional bespoke device design
- Established and well-understood supply chain characteristics to maximize the security of supply
- Bespoke device development that marries the benefits of platform products with the flexibility of a modular approach, without being heavily constrained by the starting point
- The ability to further customize platform technologies to accommodate precisely the requirements of your drug delivery device, for example, changing the flow rate or a primary container size
When determining if you need a platform product or a bespoke device leveraging our platform technologies, consider the following:
How closely does the platform product meet your needs?
Do you need to deliver a drug product with challenging formulation characteristics, such as high volume, viscosity or large molecules?
Are you looking to differentiate your device in a way that is not limited to colors or branding?
If customization is inevitable, taking a ground-up approach employing modular platform technologies may be significantly advantageous.
