Mold Repairer

  • Repair, maintain, and revise molds to ensure quality products with little to no guidance and/or assistance.  Provide expertise and coordination for mold repair/revision projects.
  • Repair and revise molds and secondary tooling
  • Troubleshoot complex mold problems and help keep production molds in efficient operating condition
  • Assembly and disassembly of all components required in mold repair process
  • Provide documentation for NC tool paths to the toolroom
  • Attend redline, AQP/PAR meetings if required
  • Schedule repair/revision work in order to meet due dates.  Coordinate with and provide direction for others.
  • Evaluate new mold performance in production
  • Set up and operate toolroom equipment, including manual and/or CNC
  • Subcontract to vendors providing the required information in coordination with mold manufacturing/repair managers
  • May be responsible for heat treating all steels commonly used in mold manufacturing
  • May be responsible for welding including micro welding
  • Support/communicate with production team, other mold manufacturers/repairers, apprentices and engineers
  • Troubleshoot and assemble manifold system
  • Maintain tools so they stay in correct working order
  • Do minor maintenance on machines in toolroom
  • Ability to work in a team environment to assure tooling responsibilities are covered for production needs even on off shifts
  • May require being on call during weekends
  • Some programs may have vision requirements
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Safety/Environmental:
    -Where applicable, individual is pre-planning safety into work activities to improve performance
    -Proactively identifies safety concerns
    -Complies with Environmental Management System program SOP’s/WI, Policy & Program elements and encourages responsible use of resources
  • Actively participate in continual improvement/innovation, corrective action and internal/external customer satisfaction
  • Completion of one of the following:
    -Submission of a continuous improvement idea
    -Active participation in a Phillips-Medisize sponsored committee or event (Examples include a - Rapid Improvement Event, a 5S/Lean event, Safety Committee,
  • Wellness Committee, Recycling Committee, Activity Committee, or other Phillips-Medisize sponsored community outreach project/event

Qualifications - Education & Experience

  • Two-year degree in machine tooling or similar discipline; or equivalent mix of education and experience
  • Completed apprentice program; or equivalent experience
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience at a journeyman level including exposure to a variety of mold manufacturing and plastic injection molding processes/technologies

  • Strong working knowledge of plastic injection molds
  • Demonstrable mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Ability to successfully work on/lead several projects simultaneously
