Metrologist

Responsibilities

  • Organize and complete First Article layouts and Capability Studies
  • Maintain laboratory systems, procedures, and policies to meet or exceed customer requirements
  • May perform color studies, submission packages, geometric design and tolerance
  • Participate in Advance Quality Planning; which may include Gage R&R, FMEAs, and flow diagrams
  • Perform MSA analysis and provide interpretation to engineering
  • Verify compliance to engineering specifications
  • Perform raw materials testing.
  • File all necessary certifications, reports, etc.
  • Provide guidance to measurement personnel
  • Select, program and operate all measurement systems; able to run all software
  • Identification of appropriate measurement methodology
  • Application of CAD data for concurrent engineering to speed up the FAI process
  • Coordinate external Metrology needs as applicable.
  • Manage/Execute GRR activity in accordance with System requirements
  • Develop/Mentor Quality Inspectors in Measurement Systems and Techniques.
  • Support Engineering in the development of specifications and prints.
  • Some programs may have vision requirements
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Safety/Environmental:
    -Where applicable, individual is pre-planning safety into work activities to improve performance
    -Proactively identifies safety concerns
    -Complies with Environmental Management System program SOP’s/WI, Policy & Program elements and encourages responsible use of resources
  • Actively participate in continual improvement/innovation, corrective action and internal/external customer satisfaction
  • Completion of one of the following:
    -Submission of a continuous improvement idea
    -Active participation in a Phillips-Medisize sponsored committee or event Examples include a Rapid Improvement Event, a 5S/Lean event, Safety Committee, Wellness Committee, Recycling Committee, Activity Committee, or other Phillips-Medisize sponsored community outreach project/event (United Way, Junior Achievement, etc.)

Qualifications - Education & Experience

  • Technical degree in precision measurement or equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum three (3) years of quality related experience 

Qualifications - Skills & Competencies

  • ASQ certification or equivalent experience (CMI)
  • Good verbal and written communications skills
  • Advanced knowledge of metrology, statistics and blueprint reading
  • Proficient with personal computer and standard office suite software
  • Basic math skills
  • Proficient with personal computer and standard office suite software
  • Ability to apply SPC (Statistical Process Control) and GD (Geometric Dimensioning and T (Tolerancing)
  • Strong understanding and ability to use statistical analysis
