Intern - Manufacturing Engineer

This is an IMMEDIATE OPENING!  Work part time during school year; fulltime next Summer!

This position is a temporary internship.  The purpose of this role will be to support the Sustaining Manufacturing Engineering Group with day to day activities.  It is a  paid position, but offers no benefits. Opportunity to work in a medical manufacturing environment!

  • Work as part of the Manufacturing engineering team, under the direction of senior engineers and the department manager
  • Support ‘continuous improvement’ of part quality, throughputs, yields, utilization, and reduction of scrap
  • Evaluate processes for updating techniques, quality, and overall efficiency to improve operations
  • Develop and maintain operational SOP’s and metric tracking tools
  • Support with training activities where necessary
  • Support validated equipment and processes by performing proper Change Management activities
  • Provide engineering team with information, justification, and analysis tools
  • Develop, track, and communicate project updates
  • Facilitate communication between engineering functions, manufacturing, and multi-facility groups
  • Implement systems and procedures that allow members of group to perform engineering function
  • Ensure that short cuts are not taken that compromise manufacturing ability to produce quality product cost effectively
  • May work to establish and develop equipment procurement projects
  • Assist in establishing cost estimates, project options, and design alternatives
  • Assist in maintaining budget control on projects
  • Work with production area on engineering related problems
  • May help with design and development of specialized equipment in production area
  • Attentive to customer needs and respond in a timely fashion
  • Some programs may have vision requirements




Qualifications - Education & Experience

Actively pursuing a bachelor degree in engineering or related technical discipline; advanced Sophomore or Junior status preferred.  Candidate should be available to work fulltime next summer. 

Qualifications - Skills & Competencies

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Some working knowledge of injection molding and materials is helpful
  • Related coursework or experience to be able to make recommendations for secondary operations, procedures, fixtures, and supplies
  • Ability to work with all levels within the organization, as well as with customers and vendors
  • Computer aptitude and experience required (MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel)
  • Computer aptitude and experience helpful (MS Project, MS Visio, MS Access, CAD, SolidWorks)
  • Team player with professional appearance and manner
  • Highly motivated with demonstrated initiative
  • Demonstrate knowledge of engineering project systems
  • Strong administrative skills
  • Demonstrable track record of project accomplishment desired
